Ephesians 2 study
Ephesians 2:1-22 (KJV)
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;
12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
Verse 1, Jesus quickens us when we are dead in trespasses and sins to become alive (born again). He does this through his very own Spirit (Holy Spirit).
Verse 2, this particular verse should humble us knowing that we once walked according to the ways of this world, according to the god (satan) of this world. It's the spirit of satan that now works in the children of disobedience whether an unbeliever or a professing Christian. For the unbeliever he walks in sin on a daily basis, primarily due to his unbelief which then manifest itself through the works of the flesh. For the professing Christian, disobedience manifest itself in the violation of Jehovah's Royal Law after being given the light that the Sabbath command is still binding. When a Christian, after being given the light of truth of the 4th commandment, disregards the Sabbath he has the spirit of satan working in him (Matthew 5:17-19).
Verse 3, again another humbling scripture. We once talked and walked in the desires of the flesh and the mind. By nature, as we had not been made alive by the Spirit of Christ prior to our conversion, we were children of wrath. So we cannot walk in pride, with the mindset that we now are better than unbelievers, as we once were their brothers and sisters of wrath. This should humble us in our evangelism efforts. Having the meekness of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ when giving them the good news.
Verse 4 and 5, we must always remember the great love and mercy of Jehovah God as he loved us even when we were dead in our sins. Brethen, Jehovah has that same love for the unbeliever that he had for you when you were in the world. This should keep us in a loving mindset to those in the world as we were once them. It was only Jehovah's tender mercies, love and kindness that brought us into His family. It was nothing of our own works. Jehovah has quickened all of us brethren together through His eternal Spirit with Christ His Son (The born again experience). Us being baptized to newness of life symbolizing Jesus being resurrected from the dead. We are saved by grace, which simultaneously is the power of God and unmerited favor of God.
Verse 6, At the last trumpet, we will be raised together (dead in Christ first then those who are alive) to sit in heavenly places for a thousand years. We will judge the angels and the nations with Christ during this heavenly millennium. We will reign with King David (Jesus).
Verse 7, Jehovah in the ages of this world and in eternity will show the exceeding riches of His grace (unmerited favor and power) toward us through Christ Jesus His only-born Son.
Exceeding (Strongs Greek 5235) - huperballo which means "exceed, excel, to surpass in throwing, to throw over or beyond any living thing. To transcend, exceeding.
Wow! What a blessing and what a loving God we have! Our God is not a tyrant but a kind and mericful Sovereign King.
Verse 8 and 9, by the power and unmerited favor of Jehovah are we saved. Not by our own works or anything of ourselves. It is the free gift of Jehovah God. We cannot dare boast in anything we have done or anything that we are. It is solely Jehovah's grace through faith that saves us.
Faith (Strongs Greek 4102) - "Pistis" which means believe, belief, fidelity, loyalty, conviction of the truth of anything, constancy of religious observance.
The power and unmerited favor of Jehovah, through conviction of the truth that He sent His Son Jesus to die as a ransom sacrifice for the world, is what saves us. Realizing this should keep us from getting haughty and thinking we are better than others.
Verse 10, we are the workmanship of Jehovah created in His Son Jesus Christ. We are the clay and Jehovah the potter. It's only by having faith in Jesus Christ that we can then be moldable by Jehovah. As Jehovah's workmanship through His Son we are then to walk in good works. Grace of Jehovah first ,Faith in Christ second and then good works to bring glory to both the Father and the Son. Jehovah ordained that we should walk in good works before we even came to salvation. Good works are the fruit of a real conversion experience.
Verses 11,12, 13 and 14, we are reminded that at one time we were outside the family of faith as Gentiles, but now are grafted in the commonwealth of Israel which is now a spiritual kingdom. Jews today who refuse Christ as their Saviour, are only Jews of the flesh. We as believers in Christ Jesus are true Israel, as we are Jews inwardly. Remember, Paul said a true Jew is one who is so inwardly not outwardly. Should we boast in this? Of course not! Jews of the flesh still have the grace of Jehovah available to them if they accept the free gift of salvation. We (formerly Gentiles in the flesh) at one time had no hope, no partaker of the covenants of promise and were without Jehovah God.
This should humble us to realize we were grafted into the olive tree of faith. The loving Jehovah had mercy on us as Gentiles and desired us for himself. It's through the precious blood of Jehovah's Son Jesus, that we now are brought close to the Almighty. Remember John 3:16, God sent His Son for the world not just the Jews. It is Jesus Christ that broke down the barrier between Jew and Gentile. Jesus is our peace! It's through him that we can go to Jehovah. Some today seek to build again, the wall of partition between Jew and Gentile. These are the Dispensationalists and Hebrew Roots who say Geo Political Israel is Jehovah's chosen people. They don't realize their error as they are trying to undo what our Saviour did at the stake. They are trying to reverse Jesus removing the division of Jew and Gentile. This is a pretty serious offense to our Lord Jesus Christ.
Verse 15, Jesus in his death abolished the OT sacrifical system with it's meat drink and burnt offerings including the holy days associated with these (law of commandments contained in ordinances) that at one time seperated Jew and Gentile. The 10 commandments of course are set apart and are still binding. At one time there was a wall of divsion and lack of peace between Jew and Gentile, however Christ sacrifice on the stake removed that. Now Jew and Gentile are made one new man in Christ Jesus.
Verse 16, Jesus reconciled both Jew and Gentile in one body by the torture stake. He slew the enmity that previously existed between both parties. Brethen, this is huge because today false teachers are trying to bring back the enmity between Gentiles and Jews. They say that Physical Geo Political Israel and ethnic Jews are Jehovah's chosen people still and that they have a separate promise and dispensation than the Christian Congregation. This is a deception of the enemy in these last days and it is evil at it's heart because they are going against what Jesus did at the stake and trying to reverse it's purpose. Satan works in many ways. The word of Jehovah contradicts clearly the rebuilding of a partition wall between the two classes. Those who preach or do this risk judgment. The Israel of God is the Christian Congregation made up of Jews and Gentiles and never to be separated. Only seeks to bring seperation due to national countries or ethnic groups.
Verse 17 and 18, the gospel was preached to the Jew and Gentile alike. Both parties now have access through Jesus Christ to the Father Jehovah by ONE Spirit (Holy Spirit). Did read that!!! It's only through Jesus Christ that either Jew or Gentile can have access to Jehovah God. National politics, being of a certain ethnic group or being a citizen of a country does not mean ANYTHING WHATSOEVER!!!!! Only faith in Jesus Christ our Lord will grant us fellowship with His Father the One true God. This is done by the Son''s and Father's own Spirit which is given to us when we become born again.
Verse 19-22, As Gentiles we were once foreigners to Jehovah's Kingdom, but now in Christ we are fellow citizens of Israel with Jewish believers. The apostles and prophets are the foundation of the Christian Congregation with Jesus Christ being the chief cornerstone. Organizations are never to take the place of either the foundation or the cornerstone. The whole building, being the Christian Congregation, is fitted together in Christ Jesus and grows into a Holy Temple in which the Spirit of Jehovah dwells.
I believe that we are now living in Jesus' millennial Kingdom (Colossians 1:12-13). The true Sabbath of the new covenant is the Davidic King, Jesus Christ (Shiloh). My blessed hope is the Second Advent of Jehovah's only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, at the last day. Those in the Kingdom of Jesus will preach his Davidic Kingship as a present reality on the throne of David in New Jerusalem. Those who call on the name of Jehovah in these last days will be saved (Joel 2:32). Psalm 2:7!

Proverbs 7, the prophecy of the Jezebel spirit in the last days!
The prophecy of the spirit of Jezebel in the last days!
Proverbs 7 (KJV)
1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
4 Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister; and call understanding thy kinswoman:
5 That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger which flattereth with her words.
6 For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,
7 And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
8 Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,
9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:
10 And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.
11 (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:
12 Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)
13 So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him,
14 I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.
15 Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.
16 I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt.
17 I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.
19 For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey:
20 He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed.
21 With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.
22 He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;
23 Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.
24 Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
25 Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.
26 For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
27 Her house is the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death.
Verses 1-3, In the last days it will Jehovah's commandments that will be at issue with Mystery Babylon and her harlot daughters. We are told in this prophecy of the Jezebel spirit in the last days, that binding Jehovah's commandments on our heart and mind will be of utmost importance (Deuteronomy 6:6-8, Hebrews 8:10-12). Not only that, but Jehovah's Royal Law is supposed to be the apple of our eye (Psalms 19:7-10). Only having this heart towards Jehovah's perfect Law will protect us from the deception of Jezebel (Roman Catholicism) and her children (apostate Protestantism and Evangelicalism). Just as Jehovah's moral law was written on tables of stone in the old covenant, we are now to have his law written on the table of our heart.
Verses 4 and 5, we are to seek the wisdom of God and the understanding of His word and attach ourselves to it as we would a dear loved one. It is by holding on to the wisdom of Jehovah and seeking the understanding of His word that will guard us against getting decieved by the strange woman (The Great Whore and her harlot daughters). This adulterous woman (spiritual idolator) flatters with smooth words to entice the those she seeks to deceive.
Romans 16:18 (KJV)
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
Isaiah 30:10 (KJV)
10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:
This Jezebel spirit is rampant in these last days and it's running roughshod over the professing churches of Christendom by her false prophets who speak smooth enticing words and avoid calling out sin.
Only the humble in these last days will seek wisdom and understanding as the prideful, especially in Christendom, think they don't have much left to learn and rely on the pulpit preachers. They are stuck in frozen doctrine and refuse to heed wisdom, understanding and warning about false doctrines and false churches. It is like the parable of the 10 virgins, the foolish ones refuse instruction but the wise ones heed it (Proverbs 8:33). It's the hearing of instruction that makes one wise, hence it will be this humility (willingness to learn) that fills the lamps of the wise virgins with oil (Holy Spirit). The foolish virigns refuse instruction because of their pride and it will be this very pride that drains their lamps of oil (Holy Spirit). These prideful foolish virigns will find themselves wanting when the bridegroom comes.
Back to Proverbs 7 verses 6 and 7, notice that it is a man devoid of understanding who goes into the house of the adulteress (spiritual whore- Babylon). This young man did not have Jehovah's commandments bound on his heart or mind so he was easily drawn to this harlot.
Verses 8 And 9, this foolish man goes into the of the harlots house, it is likened to those today who as foolish virigns go into church houses of Mystery Babylon and her harlot daughters to commit spiritual adultery against Jah. Notice in verse 9 it says this foolish man goes to the adulteress house in the black and dark night symbolizing the last days (Matthew 25:6 - The Midnight Cry). The foolish virigns of the last days stay in Babylon not heeding the call of Revelation 18:4
"And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues."
Verse 10 of Proverbs, the woman meets the foolish man and she has the attire of a harlot on
Revelation 17:4 (KJV)
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
Back to verse 10 of Proverbs, this woman is also subtil of heart
Subtil - Strongs 5341 Hebrew "natsar" which means to conceal, besieged, hidden thing, observe, subtil, watcher.
So this adulteress is deceptive, smooth and hiding her real intentions. Does this not sound exactly like the way the Great Whore (Roman Church) operates in these last days? Enticing the foolish virgins of Christendom into uniting with her in the guise of peace and unity, all the while secretly plotting to seduce these foolish ones into committing spiritual adultery with her.
Revelation 2:20 (KJV)
20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
The professing churches of Christendom have suffered Jezebel's false doctrines and idolatries such as sunday keeping, immortal soul doctrine, unending hell fire, infant baptism, image, pagan holidays etc. Instead of outright exposing these doctrines as heresy the fallen apostate Protestant and Evangelical churches promote these teachings of their mother (Rome). Seductive this mistress Jezebel is. Very crafty indeed and only those who have Jehovah's 10 Commandments written on the table of their heart will be guarded against this spiritual adulteress.
Today the children (Protestants/Evangelicals) of Jezebel have become quite crafty and deceptive themselves with their witchcraft such as the charasmatic and emergent church movement.
Back to Proverbs verse 11 and 12, this Jezebel spirit is rebellious and stays not in her abode (Rome) and has her tentacles in all the churches of Christendom. Jezebel speaks brash words against the Most High God Jehovah with her abominable claims. She refuses to repent of her ways and fornication (spiritual). Her spirit is on every corner in the form of the false churches (Protestant/Evangelical/Catholic/Orthodox) of Christendom and the other false religions that have drank of her wine. She lies in wait for the unsuspecting vicitm who has not loved Jehovah's law. Because of disregard of Jehovah's commandments, the foolish virgins have a hard time discerning truth from error and are easy victims of Jezebel. They are easily led astray by false teaching and false churches.
2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 (KJV)
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
Not loving the truth of Jehovah's word which the commandments (moral law) will cause many in these last days including the foolish virgins to believe a lie due to the strong delusion Jehovah sends them. It's already happening! Just look at professing Christendom and how they have convinced themselves that Jehovah's Royal Law is no longer for today and that Sunday is the "Lord's Day". Look at how many of the churches are seeking unity with antichrist (Papacy) and the Great Whore (Roman Catholicism). Because the foolish virigns of Christendom are filled with pride their lamps will be drained with oil as they refused the truth of Jehovah's word and failed to discern the times and watch daily at the gate for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (Proverbs 8:34).
Back to Proverbs, verses 13-17, this Jezebel spirit is brazen and seeks the life of men/women using whatever means necessary especially flattery and appealing to the flesh. She entices the foolish virigns who lack understanding to take part in her idolatry. Jezebel (Roman Church) is diligently seeking her children in these last days as seen by the Pope's whirlwind tour of meeting and uniting with the Protestant/Orthodox/Evangelical churches. Jezebel is also seeking diligently those who are not her children such as homosexuals, atheists. Jezebel's house of worship are often magnificently adorned. We see that today in the emergent church movement with the concert like atmosphere, strobe lighting, expensive stage sets and decked out "sanctuaries". The Roman Church as well as Orthodox churches and even many protestant churches are adorned with stained glass windows, steeples, clergy dressed in expensive linen (preistly garb). Jezebel's churches excite the senses if sight and smell with their candles and incsense.
Verse 18, look at this! Jezebel entices the foolish ones to engage in adultery (spiritual) against Jehovah. This love making with the immoral woman (false church) is likened to Idolatry. This foolish virgin is playing the harlot with the false Babylonian church system. This also applies to unbelievers are led astray into false worship of this Jezebel church system.
Verse 19 is striking! The young man who lacks understanding (foolish virigns) is told by those in the Jezebel churches that "not to worry about Jesus return as he is tarrying and has been gone for a long time and people have always said his return was to be in their day". Matthew 25:5 talks about the tarrying of the bridegroom and that it is the wise who filled their lamps with oil (Holy Spirit) by hearing instruction (the word of God/present truth). The foolish virigns refuse instruction (pure word of God and present truth) due to their pride thereby they run out of oil.
2 Peter 3:3-4 (KJV)
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
This will be and already is the excuse of many Christians who commit adultery with Jezebel as they will say "Jesus is tarrying, what does it matter if we join with Babylon, there will still be time to repent before he comes back."
Verse 20 of Proverbs, the bridegroom is to come back at the appointed day which is the Second Advent of Christ. Jezebel will tell the foolish virgins that not to worry about engaging in her sensual false worship as Jesus has an appointed time to come back and that it is not near.
Verse 21, the seductress entices the foolish virigns with fair speeches and flattering words and wins them over. In today's Jezebel churches (RCC/Orthodox/Protestant/Evangelical) soft smooth sermons are the order of the day and feel good messages that don't call for repentance or expose sin.
1 Timothy 4:1-2 (KJV)
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
This is happening now brethen!! The world of professing Christendom is heeding the doctrines of Jezebel. The children of Jezebel, such as the charasmatic and emergent church movement are bringing in the alluring lying signs and wonders. They are enticing people with rock music and new age mysticism. These professing Christians who go into these movements are fufilling the above passage and are departing from the faith. The other Protestant and Evangelical churches are also preaching doctrines of demons such as sunday keeping and the immortal soul doctrine.
Verse 22 of Proverbs, the foolish virgins of Christendom go into and stay in the Babylonian churches as an ox goes into the slaughter. They follow Jezebel blindly and then go into a ditch (spiritual death-eternal separation).
Matthew 15:14 (KJV)
14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
The foolish virigns despised wise instruction that they might see (wisdom) and because of that were left blind and they will follow Jezebel into the ditch of the Lake of Fire.
Matthew 25:41 (KJV)
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Verse 23 of Proverbs, the day that our Lord returns to tread the winepress of His Father's wrath will come unexpectedly to the foolish virgins and instead of translation into Heavenly Jerusalem, they will be stricken in the liver by him whose sword comes out of his mouth. The foolish virgin expected redemption but instead our Lord comes for his very life as the foolish one was caught in the house of the Whore (Babylon).
Verse 24, there is a call and admonition to heed the word of Jehovah and to obey them. This is done by studying and applying the word of God. Man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of Jehovah. This includes His commandments. It is only by doing this that we can keep ourselves from the immoral woman (false Babylonian church system).
Verse 25, It is by the heart that Jezebel and her children will win over the foolish virgins. These foolish virigns will find the adulteress (false churches) alluring as their emotions will be excited and appealed to. The bible warns us about trusting the heart and emotions.
Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV)
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Verse 26 of Proverbs, What is always the one thing that has often the strong men of the bible down? Women! Adam, Lot (altho Lot was made drunk, David, Sampson, Solomon). Well to apply this spiritually, it is the teachings of the Jezebel spirit (doctrines of demons) that in these last days will bring once strong men amd women of God down. No matter how strong our walk is in the Lord, we are not above being brought down if we play with the adulteress (false Jezebel churches). We are to stay completely away from the Great Whore (RCC)and her harlot daughters (Protestantism/Evangelicalism/Orthodox) otherwise like Sampson we can lose our strength and like Adam suffer death but this time the consequences will be eternal.
Verse 27, The Whore's (false churches) house is the way to hell (the grave) and this way to hell goes down to the chambers of death (eternal separation from Jehovah and Jesus). The foolish virigns of Christendom are committing adultery with Jezebel (false teachers) in her house (church buildings/denominations).
Matthew 23:15 (KJV)
“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Revelation 21:6-8 (KJV)
6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Run away far from Babylon (Jezebel) and don't look back, Remember Lot's wife!
Proverbs 7 (KJV)
1 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.
2 Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.
3 Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

"I AM"
The below scriptures in Exodus 3:14 and John 8:58 have been used to show that Jesus is God in personality. We know that Jesus is God in nature as the Divine Son but is he the Almighty God?
We do know that it was Jesus as "The Angel of Jehovah" appearing and speaking on behalf of His Father to Moses in the burning bush at Mt. Horeb (verse 2). Remember Jesus is the Word of God (Jehovah). Inspiration says "Jesus is God's voice made audible". Due to our Messiah saying no man has seen the Father, it is likely the preexistent Son of God that appeared to Moses. In verse 4, it says that Jehovah saw Moses turning aside to see him. Remember in Genesis 19:24, there are two Jehovah's that rain down fire and brimstone from heaven in Sodom and Gomorrha.
Genesis 19:24 (ASV)
24 Then Jehovah rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Jehovah out of heaven;
So there is a Jehovah on earth (Jesus) and a Jehovah in heaven (The Father who no man can see and still live). Remember, Jesus has his Father's name in him so he can rightly be called Jehovah. However, this does not mean that he is Jehovah in personality as that is the Father. Jesus is Jehovah in nature. In fact his Hebrew name Jehoshua means "the Salvation of Jehovah".
In the passage below Jesus as the Angel of Jehovah appears and speaks on behalf of his Father who is Jehovah in personality. This makes complete sense when we remind ourselves that Jesus is the Word of God. Read the below passage in Exodus and compare with John 8:58.
Exodus 3:1-15 (ASV)
1 Now Moses was keeping the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the back of the wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, unto Horeb.
2 And the angel of Jehovah appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3 And Moses said, I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
4 And when Jehovah saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
6 Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
7 And Jehovah said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people that are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;
8 and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
9 And now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: moreover I have seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be the token unto thee, that I have sent thee: when thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? What shall I say unto them?
14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
Let's look at vers 14 and the meaning of "I AM"
"I AM" - Strongs Hebrew 1961="hayah" which means to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass. He causes to become.
Hayah is the 3 letter root word from which the Divine name "Jehovah" is derived.
Let’s see what the phrase "I AM" means when said by Jesus in the below passage.
John 8:58 (KJV)
58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
The word "was" comes from the greek "ginomai" (Strongs Greek 1096) which means to cause to be, to become (come into being).
The word "am" comes from the greek "eimi" (Strongs 1510) which means I exist, am, have been.
The Greek reads, "Before Abraham came into existence 'I' existed."
John 8:58 does not prove that Jesus is Jehovah in personality hence being the Almighty God. Jesus is stating his pre existence to the Jews.
We do know that it was Jesus as "The Angel of Jehovah" appearing and speaking on behalf of His Father to Moses in the burning bush at Mt. Horeb (verse 2). Remember Jesus is the Word of God (Jehovah). The ministry of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
Jesus ministry shows his mercy.
John 8:1-8 (KJV)
1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
There have been discussions as of late regarding stoning. I thought this passage in John 8 would be a good one to go over regarding how our Lord and Saviour deals with sinners. The scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery before our Master and the stark differences in their treatment of this woman becomes immediately apparent.
We see the zeal of the self righteous religious leaders in wanting this woman to get her recompence. They hearkened to the law of Moses (Deuteronomy 22:22) with the intent of trapping Jesus in order to have an accusation against him. The scribes and Pharisees had a twofold intent, mercilessly see this woman get punished all the while not looking at the plank in their own eye. The other intent was to entrap the Son of God to say something contrary to the law. This would give them opportunity to also punish Jesus.
Jesus of course knew the evil intents of their heart and completely rebuked them in such a unique way that all they could do was drop their stones and leave. Jesus wrote on the ground twice, what he wrote we are not told. It could have been a list of the sins they were guilty of. The precious words of Jesus "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her". How sweet these words must have been to this woman! On one hand, she saw the unforgiving unmerciful religious white washed tombs seeking her death and on the other hand, the meek and humble Lamb extending his love and mercy to her.
Oh how safe this woman, precious in our Lord's eyes, must have felt being alone with Jesus after the self righteous religious men left after being convicted of their own planks.
Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ then gives the charge to this woman "Neither do I condemn thee go and sin no more."
John 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Brethen,
If our Lord andSaviour Jesus Christ didn't come to condemn, who are we to condemn others? We offer them the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. Oh, there will be a day of reckoning and judgment for those who reject the Son of God, but the bible also says we are to judge nothing before it's time.
1 Corinthians 4:5 (KJV)
5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
Paul the apostle said not to judge those outside the Christian Congregation.
1 Corinthians 5:9-13 (KJV)
9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
Brothers and Sisters,
We can either be like our sweet Lord Jesus to the wretched sinner (we were all there at one point) or like the white washed tombs who because of their self righteousness thought they could determine the fate of a woman made in the image of Jehovah.
Ask yourself this, who do you think the woman felt safe with, Jesus or the Pharisees?
Matthew 5:7 (KJV)
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
