Mark 1:1
"The beginning of the gospel of Jehoshua Messiah, the Son of God"
Understanding the above verse is key in terms of what exactly is the gospel. It is also key in understanding what is required for salvation. There are two opposite extremes predominate right now in Churchianity, one is the faith alone easy believism of Protestantism/Evangelicalism and the other is the return to the law of Moses of the Hebrew roots movement and Messianic Judaism.
The end result for both systems is disobeying the commandments given by the Son of God on the sermon on the mount. One ends up in lawlessness and the other ends up in legalism.
Mark connects the beginning of the Son of God's gosepl with His baptism at the Jordan river:
Mark 1;9-11
9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jehoshua came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my Son; This day have I begotten thee.
This fulfilled the Isaiah 11 prophecy in which a Branch of David would be anointed with the full measure of Jehovah's Spirit. This anointing of the Davidic King would begin the gospel of the Kingdom preaching which Mark calls the gospel of Jehoshua Messiah, the Son of God.
Between verses 1 and 9, both Isaiah and Malachi are quoted prophesying of John the Baptist making way for Jehovah God. Jehovah God came to the nation of Israel through His Davidic Messiah. It is the baptism of Jehoshua that marks the beginning of His gospel which is the gospel of the Kingdom.
Mark 1:14-15
14Now after that John was put in prison, Jehoshua came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,15And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Jehoshua preached the gospel of the Kingdom, He did not preach the gospel of Protestantism or any other man made system such as Adventism or Mormonism. When Jehoshua says here that the time is fulfilled He is likely referring to the beginning of the 70th week of Daniel:
Daniel 9:24
"Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy."
The anointing of the most Holy refers to the baptism of Jehoshua who became the temple where Jehovah dwelt during His earthly ministry. This began the 70th week of the 70 weeks prophecy. For it was through the ministry of Jehoshua that God was reconciling the world unto Himself. It was the time when men were commanded to turn from their iniquities and receive the everlasting righteousness of the Son of God.
Daniel 9:27
"And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate."
This is after 69 weeks of the 70 weeks prophecy. The first 7 weeks of years refer to the rebuilding of the city of Jerusalem and the next 62 weeks of years after that lead up to Messiah the prince (Dan 9:25). Messiah confirms the covenant with the nation of Israel at His anointing (baptism) beginning the final week of the 70 weeks prophecy.
Verse 15 of Mark 1, Jehoshua said shortly after His baptism that the Kingdom of God is (present tense) at hand meaning "near". This statement somehow has been turned into "the Kingdom of God is more than 2,000 years away". The dispensationalists, many Unitarians, Messianic Jews and Hebrew roots have perverted the above statement by Jehoshua that the Kingdom of God was arriving to the nation of Israel during His ministry.
The gospel commands men everywhere to repent and to believe in the gospel. It is not to believe in the supposed gospel of reformed theology, arminius theology or any of the other man made theologies of Christendom. It is the gospel of God's Kingdom also called the gospel of Jehoshua Messiah, the Son of God because He is the Davidic King of the Kingdom.
What are the contents of this gospel of the Son of God?
Luke 4:18-21
18The Spirit of Jehovah is upon me, Because he anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor: He hath sent me to proclaim release to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised,19To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.20And he closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down: and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him.21And he began to say unto them, To-day hath this scripture been fulfilled in your ears.
The gospel is a message salvation and restoration both spiritually and physically. Healing and freedom are essential characteristics of Jehoshua's good news message. Spritual rebirth (recovery of sight to the blind) i.e being begotten from above is a key component of the gospel. As stated while there is definitley a physical aspect to the Kingdom message the spiritual message is what brings one into it.
Freedom from the bondage of sin, spiritual eyesight to see the Kingdom and healing for those who are hurting from life's dissapointments are what the Kingdom offers. There is a real tangible component to Jehoshua's gospel message as it is not dry theology that He offers but rather a real living experience of God's goodness and mercy.
Jehoshua wants us to:
"Oh taste and see that Jehovah is good: Blessed is the man that taketh refuge in him." (Psalm.34:8).
Man's hurts and dissapoints are important to God, He desires restoration for the troubled person who is a bruised reed. Jehoshua also said:
Matthew 12:20-21
" 20A bruised reed shall he not break, And smoking flax shall he not quench, Till he send forth judgment unto victory. 21 And in his name shall the Gentiles hope.
Here Jehoshua quotes the prophet Isaiah and the meaning of the above passage is that Jehoshua will be gentle with the one that is spiritually and emotionally bruised. He will also not put out whatever small fire of life someone has in them. Instead, our King will bring the hurting and tired ones justice until they have victory. Jehoshua even desired salvation for His enemies:
Luke 9:56
"For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village."
Jehoshua's gospel mission was a rescue mission as He came to heal, bind and set free. These Kingdom principles are to be lived out by it's subjects. The problem is that much of the church thinks that the Kingdom is a future event instead of a present reality.
Matthew 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Mark 4:19
"and the cares of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful"
Jehoshua wants to take the cares of this world off of us and that includes money. The easy and light yoke Jehoshua offered was an intimate relationship with the Father and Himself. It was to take the heavy burdens of man made traditions off of the children of Israel and give them the light of God's character (John 1:18).
Far from the abstract systematic theology of the Protestant/Evangelical churches, true Christianity/Messiansim offers good news to those who are willing to drink of the living water of the Son of God.
Mark 2:17
"And when Jehoshua heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of a physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."
The good news of the gospel of the Son of God ia that He came to break through the barriers of self righteous religion and offer forgiveness to sinners and healing to those who are both physically and spiritually sick.
