Exodus 20:8-11
Good principle to apply in our lives today. Do not over work, get your rest so that weariness doesn't overcome you. In the parable of the sower and the seed, the cares of this world was one of the things that choked out the word of God in some people's lives. Over working easily has this effect on believers. Having gainful employment is good but when you become a slave to it that's when your walk with our Lord Jesus suffers. We can spend our whole lives striving for upward mobility in the Corporate world and striving to get the next degree in University. But what do those things contribute to doing the work of Preaching which we are all called to:
Matthew 24:14 "And this gospel in the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations and then the end will come."

the powers that be want to keep people too busy and distracted to think. I think about the people who have invested their entire lives into nothing but work and attainment. Living in a wealthier career obsessed community has been difficult for me. Those who have not achieved are deemed unworthy. God would be horrified by all this. They have not only sold their souls for mammon but their time and every minute of their lives.
ReplyDeleteYes the corporate culture chews you up and spit you out with little or nothing to show for it. You then look back and wonder where all the time went and how you wasted opportunities to do the work of the ministry because you were so consumed with working up the corporate ladder.
