The prophesied coming of the Messiah - Isaiah 53

Jesus, the literal Son of Jehovah, prophesied about in Isaiah 53

Isaiah 53 (ASV)

1 Who hath believed our message? and to whom hath the arm of Jehovah been revealed?

2 For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3 He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised; and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and Jehovah hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.

8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who among them considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due?

9 And they made his grave with the wicked, and with a rich man in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased Jehovah to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by the knowledge of himself shall my righteous servant justify many; and he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Verse 1 of Isaiah 53 describes our Messiah as the arm of Jehovah, this can be interpreted as an extension or strength of Jehovah. The power of Jehovah was and is manifested in Jesus Christ his very Son. This power will be manifested to the whole earth when Christ returns in His Father's glory at the Second Advent.

1 Corinthians 1:24

"but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God."

Verse 2 of Isaiah 53 describes our Saviour growing up from the baby born in Bethlehem to the Man who ministered to his brethren. Unlike the pictures and images we see of our Messiah, there was no beauty that men desired of Him. Our Saviour was not only humble in heart but also humble in appearance.

Verse 3 of Isaiah 53 describes the treatment our Messiah would receive from His own people. This verse is vital as many of the Jews mistakenly thought the Messiah would arrive with pomp and circumstance. Had they kept this prophecy in their hearts, they might have seen that Jesus who was meek and humble, fufilled the words in Isaiah 53. They wouldn't have expected the Messiah to reign as an earthly King.

Verse 4 of Isaiah 53 describes exactly Jesus ministry of bearing the weight of our griefs and sorrows. Reading the gospel accounts, one can easily see how Jesus took upon himself the heavy yokes of men and women. Many in his day considered him afflicted of Jehovah as they had the wrong understanding that the Messiah was supposed to come and live in earthly majesty rather than as a suffering servant. Remember Jesus words in Matthew 28:20:

"Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."

Verse 5 of Isaiah 53 decribes the death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the stake as He took our sins and bore them that we may be granted everlasting life. This everlasting life is given to those who believe in Him and his ransom sacrifice (John 3:16). By believing in the Messiah, we then can know and have a relationship with the Father Jehovah.

1 Peter 2:24 (KJV)

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Verse 6 of Isaiah 53 says that we as sheep have gone astray and that Jehovah has laid on His Son, our iniquity. The purpose being to redeem us back to the Father. One being  (Jehovah), laying the iniquity of the strayed sheep, on another being (Jesus His Son). No trinity here or co equal gods but rather a Father-Son relationship of theocratic order. The Father in authority over the Son, lays on him the sins of the lost sheep in order to redeem them back unto Himself.

Verse 7 of Isaiah 53 describes how Jesus in humility did not plead his cause but rather chose to suffer on our behalf. He chose silence and willingness to be oppressed rather than fight back either verbally or physically.

Matthew 26:61-63 (KJV)

61 And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

62 And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

63 But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

The above passage says a lot about Jesus character. His confidence came not from men but from His Father Jehovah. He knew who He was and what the Father called him to do. Jesus felt no need to plead his case with men. Also, notice the question asked of him in verse 63 by the high priest "I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God"

See, the controversy about Jesus wasn't whether he was Almighty God, as our Saviour never claimed this. The controversy about Jesus, was him being the Son of God, the Christ meaning the anointed one. The Jews understood that "the Christ" referred not to God himself but rather God's anointed one. They understood that the claim from Jesus of  being the Son of God, didn't mean that he was claiming to be God Almighty himself but rather His Son and thereby being equal. Notice the high preist making reference to the living God and then asking Jesus to tell him if he was the living God's Son. The high priest didn't ask Jesus to tell him if he was God as Jesus never claimed that, but rather the Son of God.

Verse 8 of Isaiah 53 - Our Messiah suffered for the sins of others and this was undeserved but it was Jehovah's plan of redemption. Jesus was cut off from the land of the living (Daniel 9:26). The Messiah was taken from prison and judgment  (Matthew 27:11-26, Luke 23:1-25).

Daniel 9:26 (KJV)

26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

Verse 9 of Isaiah 53 - Jesus was buried with the wicked, when he was on the stake it was in the middle of two criminals (Luke 23:33). Jesus had no deceit in his mouth and no sin in him (1 Peter 2:22). Joseph of Arimathaea the rich man asked for the body of Jesus and clothed him in clean linen.

Matthew 27:57-60 (KJV)

57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

1 John 3:5 (KJV)

5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.

Verse 10 of Isaiah 53 - Jehovah was pleased to bruise His Son because it was how his people (Israel of the flesh and then spiritual Israel) would be redeemed. Jehovah made His Son's soul (living body) an offering for sin (John 1:29, 1 Corinthians 5:21). Obviously it was our Saviour's body that was impaled not a disembodied soul because there is no such thing. When the bible talks about the soul, the meaning is a living being not a spirit floating around. This is another passage that can be used to refute spiritualism which teaches that a disembodied soul survives death. After the offering for sin is made, (Acts 2:24) Jesus shall see his seed meaning descendants and offspring, a spiritual application can be made here. Jesus seed is the Israel of God made up of Jews and Gentiles who accept Him as their Saviour.
The results of many being justified due to the Messiah being obedient in death leads to a reward by Jehovah God as he prospers his Son and prolongs his days. Jesus was exalted to the right hand of the Father and is set on the throne with his father (Revelation 3:21). Jesus will reign with the Saints for a thousand years in Heaven. Jesus will sit on the throne with Jehovah in the eternal home of the Saint's  (New Jerusalem and the earth made new). He will also along with his Father be the Temple of the Holy City. See Revelation 21:22 amd Revelation 22:1.

John 1:29 (KJV)

29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Acts 2:24 (KJV)

24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

1 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Verse 11 of Isaiah 53 - Jesus saw the travail of his soul  (living body) and was satisfied. Jehovah calls Jesus his righteous servant, that's right, not a co eternal, co equal member of a trinity god but He calls Jesus his servant meaning the Father has authority over His Son. Jesus is the chosen of God, the Messiah (anointed one) not Almighty God himself. Jesus bore the sins of many and

"He saw the results of the travail of his soul (living body- my note) and was satisfied. Looking into eternity, He beheld the happiness of those who through his humiliation had received pardon and everlasting life. His ear caught the shout of the redeemed. He heard the ransomed ones singing the song of Moses and the Lamb. [AA 601]

1 John 2:1 (KJV)

2 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

We are exhorted here not to sin and that if we do, our advocate is Jesus Christ who is righteous. Who does Jesus Christ plead our case to? Himself? No! Jesus pleads our case to the Father another distinct person. The distinction between the Father and the Son here is clear. This shows a proper Father/Son relationship not a trinity.

Acts 13:38-39 (KJV)

38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:

39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

It's through Jesus that we have forgiveness of sins as he bore them on the stake. Once we come to faith in Jesus as the Son of God we then have him as our High Priest and mediator to advocate for us to His Father Jehovah.

Verse 12 of Isaiah 53 -  Because of our Saviour's obedience to his Father, he will be granted to rule as a King over all things and not only that but our Saviour will divide the spoil with us. During the heavenly millennium, we will reign with Christ and judge the angels and the nations (Revelation 20:4-6).

Revelation 1:5-6 (KJV)

5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Look above and see that Jesus, who is the firstborn of the dead and the faithful witness of His Father Jehovah, has made us kings and priests unto God. Who is God according to this passage? Verse 6 clearly says that God is Jesus's Father. So how is Jesus the Almighty God if it clearly says that God is his very own Father. This destroys the trinity doctrine in fell swoop and proves that there is a theocratic order in the Godhead and that Jesus is the literal Son of God.

1 Peter 2:9 (KJV)

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

Matthew 27:38

"Then two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left"

Jesus was numbered with the transgressors.

2 Corinthians 5:21

"For he made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."

It's through faith in Christ Jesus and what He did on the stake, that we become the righteousness of Jehovah God. Jesus bore our iniquities on the stake. He made intercession for us at his death and He also continues interceding for us in the heavenly sanctuary to the Father Jehovah. So who made Jesus sin for us? Obviously the Father Jehovah, showing us a theocratic order in the Godhead and a distinction between God and Jesus. Two distinct beings in the above passage, God and Christ, through faith in Jesus, we become the righteousness of His Father Jehovah. Jesus didn't send himself to bear our sins. It doesn't say through Jesus we become the righteousness of Jesus, although He is righteous. Jehovah and Christ are one in mind, character and purpose but they are separate distinct persons. They have the same substance/DNA as Jesus is Jehovah's literal Son.
